Q + A

Do I have to go on the cruise to Alaska to attend the wedding?

No. You can attend the wedding ceremony without going on the cruise. But you *do* need to RSVP, so your name(s) will be on the priority list to get onto the pier and the ship.

Seriously?!? This wedding is on a Monday?

Yes. The wedding ceremony is on the day of embarkation for an Alaska cruise, which departs on Monday, September 22nd.

When do I need to RSVP by?

Dawn is taking Reservations for the cruise now. Wedding invites will be mailed in February. RSVP for reception and wedding will be due around July timeframe.

Are there events both days (9/21-22/2025)?

Yes. The less-formal reception is on Sun., 9/21 and the wedding ceremony and formal reception is on Mon., 9/22. The wedding will be two days: 1. Sunday - Pre-reception (Welcome dinner) 2. Monday - Wedding ceremony

What is a Preception?

We made that up. Is there a better term for having the Reception *before* the wedding? Please do let us know if there is a more accurate word for such an event. We anticipate the Wedding Day (also the Day of Embarkation) being a rush of activity and unlikely that we'll have time for our guests who will travel all the way to Seattle, WA to celebrate with us. The Preception will give us a chance to visit with our family and friends before embarking (pun intended) on this journey.

Do I need a passport?

NO. If you are going on the cruise to Alaska will not need a passport but it is recommended. Since the cruise departs and returns in the US, a passport is not required. You will need your birth certificate if you do not have a passport. Just make sure that if you do not have a passport that you do not miss returning to the ship in time while in Canada or do something that lands you in a hospital/jail in Canada because then you will have difficulties returning to the US.

How do I book the cruise with you?

Contact our cruise planner, Dawn, at Vacations.via.Dawn@gmail.com or (833) 454-8935 ext 702 for questions about the cruise, or any cruise. As our friend, a Sailor, and a frequent cruise-taker, she's an excellent resource for any and all questions related to cruises!

Which cruise line?

Royal Caribbean

Why are you getting married on a cruise?

Because we're Sailors; it's what we do. A cruise where we're not the ones swabbing the decks or manning the radios seems, kinda well, perfect. Let's get underway, shift colors, and tie the knot!

What is "semi-formal" attire?

Semi-formal is slightly dressier than business casual, but not a black-tie affair. Do recommend *comfortable shoes* for walking up and down the pier and getting around the ship - it isn't a difficult terrain but you may be on your feet for awhile.

What do I pack for the cruise?

7 days of clothes and toiletries. Weather in September will probably be in the 50s so pants and jackets. Rain jacket is suggested for shore locations in Alaska. Swim suit to enjoy the heated pool and hot tubs on the ship. Athletic wear if you plan to utilize the gym onboard the ship. Comfortable shoes. There will be two formal nights for dinner. It is not required to dress up but it sure is fun! There is a "dress code" for the main dining room - basically no swim wear or tank tops. Most people tend to dress nicely for dinner but it isn't a requirement.

What about kids?

Bring 'em! We're trying to make this family-friendly, to spend more time with our family and friends who-are-like-family.
